I have an idea that I am going to try that will help with the ride quality in the desert.

Even with $4000 in king shocks they got too hot. The rears completely faded and where about 230 degrees at one point. (This has only ever been a problem at hammers, racing in the wide open desert for 12 hours. )

For starters I’m going to. 2.5 body shock in the rear. To match the fronts. I ordered new shock in January and they aren’t suppose to ship up till October. King is super backed up with custom orders.

Next I want to water cool them. IF I have time, the plan is to make water jackets and circulate coolant through a trans cooler to keep them cooler.

I’ve never seen this done so I’m not sure how effective it will be but I’m going to give it a try.

I'm the worst at taking pictures of stuff while I'm working. I'll do my best. I pulled the trigger on 2 E lockers, gear sets and drive flanges yesterday. Going to pull the rear shafts tomorrow to count the splines and measure the length after I find they're 30 instead of 35 spline.

Sounds like you are talking about making a heat exchanger like on inboard boats. You might look at them to see if they can be copied or modified for your needs to cool the shock fluid.

Hydraulic assist steering is done. It works wonderfully. It will turn my 35s with one finger sitting still, yet still give wheel feedback for a non tractor like driving experience. Worth the headaches and many, many pennies.

I had to replace an axle seal so I figured it was also a good time to upgrade some other parts while I had things apart.

Upped the king pin size from factory to about an inch pin on both top and bottom. Also installed ARP studs for piece of mind. I think the housing is my weakest link now and it’s not weak at 1/2 an inch thick tubes.

I had something super freaking cool show up today!!! I asked on On The Rox if they were able to make a set of custom aluminum fender armor kits to replace my steel set and they delivered! And quick. I can’t believe how fast they were able to switch gears and get these things pumped out for me. Made to my spec, .250 wall tubing and thick 3/16 plate. Now I need to practice my aluminum TIG skills before I touch these babies.

Welp got my first tig machine in the mail today. I think I’ll be hiring someone to get these fenders done. There no way I’m going to progress fast enough to get these things looking good for my Moab trip in a couple weeks.

How much aluminum have you ever welded Max? If you just started with Aluminum, it's not awful bro. If you been welding aluminum for years, I'd say yeah.... probably outta hire it out.

Well bud, I'm a CWI and API Inspector (mechanical integrity specialist) and I'm guessing you may be between 25 and 30.... so if you haven't touched aluminum in 10-15 years, I'm betting you will master that craft in the near future. But for the time frame your dealing with... might outta spring for case of beer, a handle good wiskey, a few large pizzas and get a fellow over to slick it on out for ya. ?
