Back from Moab 2022. Had a great time. Some days where easy wheeling with the entire group (10 Jeeps) some days it was just a few on some harder trails.
Once again I neglected to get good action photos. My wife couldn’t come this time so I have no new YouTube videos either unfortunately.
Steering held up great. No issues. The hydraulic assist made steering effortless all week. Only one issue. At one point my rear locker wouldn’t disengage but after removing the actuator to bench test it, it magically starting working again. I just bolted it back on and didn’t have any more issues.
The cutting brakes where a lot of fun on loose and gravel roads. You can really control the pitch of your drift around the turns when moving fast. Almost felt like having rear steer.
In the rocks there was just too much traction to get full use out of it. I knew this going into the trip though. The cutting brake will be a lot more useful on sloppy wet east coast wheeling where traction isn’t so readily available. A true rear drive disconnect is next so I can really use the full advantage of cutting brakes.
It was very cool wheeling with some of the long travel kit roxors. The green roxor Driven by Chris Beyer even had a similar Toyota axle swap with a bunch of the parts I recut from my build.
It’s always hard to leave a place like that and get back to the daily grind. Good times with good friends.
