Next on the list is a steering upgrade. There are ways to add hydraulic assist to the stock steering set box by tapping into the box in the correct locations to act as a valve and pump fluid into a actuator. This works well on some vehicles and not so well on others. I know of 2 roxors with the stock box tapped and one person was happy with the outcome and the other was not. I figure this roxor will be racing hammers again in 2023 so it’s go big or go home.

Here is a tapped roxor box for reference.

I went with a PSC bid bore XD box for a wrangler. Adapting it looked like it was going to be easy but it always looks easy and never is.

The pitman arm came from Sam’s offroad. It is a big chunk of steel. 1 inch thick steel plate. I’ll have to cut it down and re drill it for my application.

I had this wrangler spacer in my scrap metal bin. I pulled it out just in case I would ever need it. Glad I did. Left is wrangler. Right is roxor. Not a single dimension is similar.

The box also is quite a bit longer then the stock roxor box. I’ll try to get comparison photos tomorrow.


I stated buy shaving down the wrangler spacer to have a flat plane to work with. Im Going to attempt to make a bracket combining the wrangler spacer with a bracket that attaches to the factory roxor mounting points.

Ha. No that’s a pretty standard thing to have in a rock crawler. Normally you would have a atlas or some type of rear drive line disconnect to drag both rear wheels and burn turn with fwd only. I haven’t figured that out (yet) with the roxor. So one wheel lock at a time for now after hitting the switch to open the rear locker.

It’s not looking like I’ll be able to make this a easy swap. If i did, it probably wouldn’t work unless you have my long travel kit. It will occupy the space of the oem shackle hanger.

Planned obsolescence my friend

Today I was able to got my proof of concept done to where I’m confident my plans will work.

With the box placed where I wanted it I realized that there may be a fairly simple way to mount this box to the frame.

The unused shackle mounts that I decided not to cut off while I was cleaning up the frame lined up pretty close to where I ultimately wanted to be.

I used the plasma table to make centering spacers, ran a bolt through the center and into the lower mount of the box. It worked perfect. The box clears everything and there is plenty of room to pass a shaft through the window in the roxor front crossmember. It is tucked up nice and high, out of harms way. I will still skid plate it.

I am now going to work on making a permanent relocation solution using the shackle center as my point of reference. Once all mock up is done I’ll switch out this old box for the new PSC hydro assist box.

Man my roxor looks like a mess in these photos. I’m going to give it a good power wash and repaint before Moab in a 2 months.
