04/04/2022 UPDATE:

We took a break but I did fabricate some flare extensions that blend the flares into the body. Still need to weld them but they fit great and finishes out the flare where it looks like part of the car and not just a stuck on flare.

Well thank you sir. I am trying to get it to at least drive around the block by April 15th, which will mark the 1-year anniversary of dragging it on a trailer in a cold April drizzle late one night to get it home.

I usually get 15 to 20 hours a week in on working on it with a few weekends here there with Pete's help to good 8-hour days.

I'll post a THEN and NOW pic. Lolol. Don't look much different Sept it's missing the trailer! Lolol.

04/09/2022 UPDATE:

Well, my cheap bastard bargain bin hydrolic throw out bearing that mashes the clutch pressure plate which releases the clutch was not as labeled. It's not for a Ford T5 tranny. It came up 1/4" to short per the clearance measurements.

Also, the part that keeps the mechanism from spinning is not correct nor was the bolt that has a locating shaft. Wrong thread.

Found a bolt in Pete's buckets of bolts that we converted to the correct locating shaft.

Looked and looked in all the pieces of material around Pete's shop to fab a spacer with no luck.

Went to Home Depot and found a piece of pipe in the plumbing department that was a drop somebody left on a shelf. I asked about it. Nothing they sell. I asked for it and they gave it to me. Lol.

So went back, used the chop saw, cut a spacer from the pipe. Sanded it to exact length and chamfered it to seat against tranny pilot shaft plate. Then stuffed on the rest of the non Ford parts. We made the correct spacing within ten thousands of an inch. .010. lolol. Fingers crossed.

Pulled the engine so I can finish cleaning up the fire wall and clean, seal and paint the complete engine compartment.

04/10/2022 UPDATE:

Well, I did the " Tammy Fay Baker" make over to the engine bay today. ( if ya ain't old, you won't understand who that was. :) ) Got all the crusty areas in the engine bay cleaned up and either painted, undercoated or both. Plugged all the arrant holes here and there and wire brushed away some rust.

Except for where I kept leaning in on painted areas that were still tacky, it looks mostly decent.

So letting it dry till tommarra afternoon and we will then stuff the motor back in. May get the tranny in as well. Then the drive shaft.

We serviced the rear end with it's posi-trac STINKEY additive and serviced the tranny.

Then it's bleed the clutch system, get it working then start the bleeding of the brakes. Fingers crossed.

04/12/2022 UPDATE:

Well yesterday, Pete and I got the motor in, tranny in along with the throw out bearing system, drive shaft and got it all tightened up in 1 hour 20 minutes.

That included pushing the car out and turning it around, get it in, stuff in motor, push back out, push back on the rack to do the tranny and the rest.

Today I installed the EFI throttle body, Atomic 2900, motor wiring is hooked up, radiator in, hoses on, wiring tie wrapped on top of motor, gas peddle linkage and gas peddle is in with boot, found some rustolium high temp black and some silver ceramic coat. So I sprayed the muffler fwd with the ceramic. Starter wires, alternator wire and ground strap installed. There is only one unhooked plug and it goes to the exhaust gas reader.

I ordered some heat shielding to go around the hydrolic line to throw out bearing assembly which is within 3"-4" from the headers. It's silver, it looks like NASA stuff from the moon lander. Lol. Good to 500 degrees touching and 2000 within 3 inches. It arrives tommarra.

Once I get the shielding on I can tighten all the clutch lines down. Bleed the system and see if it works, needs a stop or if it's good as is.

Then bleed the brakes, adjust the E-Brake and install the fuel tank vent line and roll over fuel check valve.

I think Friday may really be the day!

Funny you say the " gonna do this or that". My brother in law said from day one, "YOU WILL NEVER FINISH" . He has been with an alarm company doing installs and service for the last 25 years. He claims or states, " I go in these houses and everyone is an engineer and wants to show me the car they have been working on for 10-20-30 years. " He says they never will finish the cars. He lumps me in that group I guess?

I told him that the first drive once the car is done will be to smoke the tires in front of his house and leave TWO permanent black marks for him to see every time he goes out to his mail box! Lolololol.

I am old school. We met. I do what I say weather its take a job, quit a job, regardless if the offer to stay is better than where I say I'm going. I am as much a man of my word as is possible now days. I will finish the car. It will be a big accomplishment for me. It will show what I have learned to do in my life, design, create, and fabricate by hand in many areas. I am by no means an expert at anything but, I can do well at a lot of things. Lololol.

04/14/2022 UPDATE:

IT'S ALIVE!
I drove the mustang up the street on it's maiden voyage. All I can say is SENSORY OVER LOAD. Lolol.

We sent an hour or so checking for brake line leaks, the checked and tightened up all the suspension components again. Adjusted the E-Brake just in case, added coolant, fired it up.

We did some pre run testing by testing the clutch for the first time, tried the brake once it was rolling on its own. Checked the E-brake. Pre flight complete!

I ran up the street going through just first and second gear. Turned around and hit the gas a tad and then hit second then third, shifting each gear at about 3000 rpm. Oh My it's wants to go.....

This video is Pete taking his wife for a run up the street. As he pulled into the street he reached for the shifter and brushed the kill switch. Lolol. The shifter is way to far forward and down to low. That will change. Lol.

04/18/2022 UPDATE:

On Saturday we did a few more test drives. Actually looking at the gauges and paying attention to how it drives and feels.

After Pete drove a mile or so I drove it. The shift lever I made from a clutch lever, yes, the peddle assembly was inverted and straightened then bent with attach holes added and a bolt welded to it for the knob. I had found it in a parts box, it fixed the to low and to far forward problem. The shift knob is now in a perfect position. Lolol.

As I finished my mile drive I turned left into the driveway pretty hot. The driveway has a bump and is off camber a tad. Veeerrrpt! I rubbed a right rear tire on the flare! S H I T!!!!!

Now I have to re figure flare to tire clearance in the rear.

Need to get the power steering hooked up and mount the GPS antenna for the speedo. Then go do a little more testing. Maybe I should hook up some lights first??? Lolol.

04/20/1022 UPDATE:

Well I found a tranny leak at tail shaft to drove shaft yoke. No big deal. Bought a $15 seal and will install it this weekend.

Went ahead and trimmed the rear flares to clear the rear tires. Added 1-1/4 inches more in the area that rubbed and mirrored it on the front side of the flare.

Still have to add the turn down on the lip as it was before I trimmed them. The rear kinda matches the front squared off look I guess.

Got insurance on it through Hagerty and will tag it tommarra with vintage 66 plates I bought on eBay.

I like the profile of those flares, nice work!
The shape is growing on me. Lolol. It better never see 300mph! If it does Elon has launched it into space! Lolol. If it goes 160 Ill be completely happy. If it would pull 6000 rpm in top gear, the charts say 205 mph. I call bull dewdew on that! Lolol. If it would pull 5000 rpm the chart says 171 mph. I can maybe see that. With the cow catcher air dam I will fabricate the, 160 will be pretty real world I think. I hope......

Tremecs gear /tire/ tranny chart says at 6500 rpm...

1st gear= 47.55 mph
2nd gear= 72.30 mph
3rd gear= 104.68 mph
4th gear= 140.26 mph
5th gear= 222.64 mph. ( dewdew with 350 hp )

Realistic numbers for 4th and 5th gears would be maybe get 5500-5800 rpm, maybe. I think 5000 in 5th gear is more realistic.

Tremecs gear /tire/ tranny chart says at 5500-5800 rpm...

4th gear= 118.69 -125.16 mph
5th gear= 188.39 - 198.67 mph

Tremecs gear /tire/ tranny chart says at 5000

4th gear= 107.90 mph
5th gear= 171.26

The motor is strong. I think no problem pulling the 6500 rpm in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Bottom end should be good to twist it to 7000 plus but I am setting the rev limiter to the 6500 rpm mark. Cam pulls to 6250 for max numbers. So any more is just making some bad as noise! Lolol.
