Checking in… some things in my life have changed…

Bought a new house with a bigger shop!

But more importantly I’m returning to King of the Hammers this February!

So as of right now I’m ditching the aluminum sliders and will revisit that later. It’s race prep time!

Do you still have your FC150

Hammers prep is fully underway. Parts are arriving daily. This time it’s a little easier knowing exactly what to expect.

Since I’ve actually had to change or service very little in the past 2 years since the last hammers I’m not going to do any drastic changes. Im a strong believer in don’t fix thing that aren’t broken.

Im really focusing on checking over everything and spending time and money on the little details that were either overlooked or we just plane out ran out of time for last round. There are a lot of accessories that I wish I would have had like storage for parts and tools, more light, easier to reach controls and navigation, etc.

I wanted to build a new set of HD rear shackles. The last set held up fine but I wanted to take it to the next level for peace of mind.

I found some old rusty tubing in my scrap pile and cleaned it up. Cut some 1/4 inch flat plate shackles on the plasma table to the same dimensions as the long travel kit and then added the tube to reinforce them. I split the tube and welded them to the shackles to both protect the bolt heads and also add a good bit of strength.

Many people complained about the Exide batteries that came in the LE roxors. Mine is definitely on the way out but it’s a 2018 and has certainly been put through it’s paces. I have no complaints, but I did want to go to something with a lot more kick for heave winching.

Roxor specs a group 24 battery. One of the better sizes for capacity but that comes at a cost, weight. While swapping to a group 34 battery doesn’t make a huge weight difference, dropping 10 lbs here and there has made a big overall difference.

The XS 3400 battery fit right in the original mount but i did trim the hold down bar to keep it a safe distance from the terminals.

While normally a Odyssey battery guy, the specs on this battery are pretty impressive. We will see how it holds up.

The storage solution I had pictured is slowly coming to fruition. 2 bins mounted on either side with Milwaukee pack out attachment on top to add a cooler and tool boxes. In between will be a aluminum 1.5 ton jack that will have a quick disconnect mount that is super secure and rattle free.

The entire thing is modular so it can be moved around and reconfigured quite easily. It can also be removed completely with 4 wing nuts and the back seat can then be quickly clipped back in.

Its hard to put it into pictures. I may have to do a YouTube video on the whole set up.

This may be something I could produce in the future if there is enough interest.

Yeah the steering gear in the Roxor is pretty light duty it appears. I would think you might wanna bearing brace it like the "Dodge Steering Fix".

View attachment 5791

wayyyyyy back on page 2 @jrobz23 suggested a steering brace because the steering box could be a weak link… and I said no way the box is strong ?‍♂. Well the box was strong the frame was week. But if I had that brace I probably would have made it further at hammers In 2021.

Last minute changes before you hit the road?

Made a few changes. But basically haven’t had to touch a thing in 2 years since the last hammers besides steering. Don’t fix what isn’t broke! Just freshening up everything and putting a wrench on every single bolt.
