I finally finished my intercooler install, total cost was around 350 dollars and time! Lots of time!! The reason is I had to get the correct boots and send stuff back and get new ones because mainly I measure about 4 times and forget what I measured and order stuff anyway!

Stage two tune from Diesel Freaks. My biggest thing was temps at highway speeds going to and getting from the trail. I'm in Southern AZ and it takes miles of black top to get to the trails. In the summer time my intake temps were easily 220 degrees, anyway to reduce those temps is useful IMO.

Exhaust temperature is more pertinent. As long as your egt's are in check you're OK. An intercooler would not seem to hurt though. I'm all for overkill. My stock ecm with the stock passive turbo doesn't make much boost. I also have a pyrometer as well. Do you have some kind of sensor/thermo-coupler in the intake to measure the temp?

The roxor has a pressure/temp sensor that you can monitor with a digital reader using the CAN/ODB2 connector. I use a autometer dashlink 2 for my gauges, didn't want to install physical gauges but I'm probably going to break down and install a EGT sensor and gauge.

The reason I installed the intercooler was longevity, getting that intake temp down will have a reduction in EGTs they are a direct correlation.

I installed these some time back just to get a baseline for future mods.

Nice clean install! I purchased one of those plates that relocates the speedo a little lower and gives you 3 holes for the gauges up top. Just didn't want to cut into the Roxor if I didn't have to.

@DesertRox: I saw the pictures of the engine bay after you installed your DIY intercooler.
I'm in the Phoenix area. Going down the highway, the intake temps do read (OBD scan tool) well above 200F lately with +110F ambient temperature.

Do you have a parts list you could share on the forum or could add some more details, please?

How much did the intake temps drop (on comparable trips and weather/ambient temps)?

I used the frostbite intercooler.

I ordered some piping. On the piping I had the temp/pressure sensor mount moved and welded on the cold side near the intake elbow to get a more accurate reading. Something the aftermarket kit you pay close to a 1000 dollars doesn't do. After that figure out what elbows and sleeves you need and order accordingly.

Also I got this project from another member on here. He did the work originally and I just copied him.

If you look at my pictures if you do it the way I did you will have to relocate the overflow, reweld a bung to mount the sensor, most likely need to cut some plumbing and have a bead welded on to hold he silicone boots.

@DesertRox: Thanks for sharing the information on parts you used.
I might make that a fall project.

What temps do you read (on your OBDII scanner) in summer when AZ hits +110F at highway speeds now that you have the intercooler?

These are low intake temps! About 15F - 20F above ambient.

About a week ago, it was 115F in Phoenix. I drove my Roxor at about 60 - 65 mph on a flat highway. The scanner tool read well over 200F (I think peak was at 240F, but don't quote me on it).

Yes I was running around Patagonia last spring on the highway at about 65 and Temps were 220 easily which is what pushed me to install the intercooler.
