I have a 2024 HD model with the 2.7l engine. I’ve read a lot about the 2.5l (old gen) exhaust and it sounds like there is a catalytic converter and a muffler inline. Looking at my 2.7l it looks like my exhaust from the engine back has some sort of bulbous “thing” of mystery right by the engine, then just a straight wall pipe going out the back. No muffler. I think the bulbous “thing” is a catalytic converter. Perhaps it’s a muffler as well? I want to go to a wider exhaust pipe to get a better sound, and perhaps a minimal gain in performance if I have to justify something greater than sound. I wanna hear some throat, and I want to hear the whistle, and I wanna hear some blow off when I let off the throttle! This is my hunting rig so I don’t want to be absurdly loud but maybe just louder than what makes you grin when you hear it. That’s my best description..

What do I do?!

Someone tag Wade! (I haven’t figure out how).

I don't know if Wade LaLone gets one here, but he does on the Facebook Roxor pages. Yes, the "bulbous" thing downstream from the exhaust side of your turbo is the cat, which also serves as an exhaust muffling device as well.

Do we know if it’s restrictive? The consensus on the 2.5 is that the cat isn’t constricting.

Any restriction in a diesel exhaust is somewhat detrimental, but I don't think it is that restrictive. If I remember correctly, removing it yields a couple more horse and that's it. I'm going to do the downpipe CAT delete in the spring when it warms up, but primarily to help ensure EGTs are never an issue, not to gain power.

Meaning you’re avoiding a glowing red hot Cat?

Not so much the hot cat, but I'd hate to burn a hole in a piston. Granted, it would take some doing to maintain sustained 1300 degree EGTs on these things, but it's cheap insurance. I'm a Cummins guy though, and most of my experience is with much bigger diesels. But, sustained high EGTs and aluminum pistons mean bad things will happen. Getting rid of the hot cat is not a bad thing!

I am not an educated man on the subject, but I have read that Mahindra’s design for these motors is more or less based off of Cummins designs. Perhaps your preemptive maintenance is sound!

Yeah, I'm still pretty new to this little 2.5, but there are a lot of guys on this forum that are a lot more knowledgeable than me that will undoubtedly come along at some point and share their opinions.

As far as I know from Wade, until we have a tune there is very little you can modify on the 2.7L that will noticable increase performace.
