Battery upgrade for use with winch

Hello All,

I will be installing a Warn winch on my Roxor and was curious what battery others have used as an upgrade to the original? Installation instructions recommend the Exide FP-AGM24 wich seems to be on the expensive side. Would like to know brands/model numbers if possible. Thank you in advance for your help!

I was looking around for one of those batteries. I think excide went bankrupt.
there are some other possibilities list around on this board.

Someone posted they got an O’Reilly’s Super Start 34/78 AGM. He had to do some modifications to the hold down bracket.

Any update on this? Is it just a matter of time before the stock battery fails? I installed a Warn ER Evo 8k and do not want to replace the battery until I have to but also I do not want to be stranded.

I asked the dealer and he didnt know offhand. He said he would look it up and tell me when I went in to pick up my roxor. Still waiting on that event. These guys are so damn slow. making me crazy.

Heads up, look for a Deka (East Penn) Battery outlet or dealer. Great batteries. I worked almost 40 years as a diesel mechanic for a utility in Michigan and the last 20 years we used Deka Batteries and they were great. If it work in our field you know that was a good battery. A little bit more money but well worth it. Just my 2 cents! Good Luck!

Found a Duracell battery at Sam's Club, group 34 with positive post on left, 800 CCA,
and the same dimensions as the OEM battery. $102

I saw the same batter at sams. Let me know if it fits or you have to mod the mount.

What I would tell you is look for the local Deka dealer and call him and tell him what you got and what you want to do with the battery! Winch, lights, radio, etc, etc. He would than give you probably several choices. Then shop he numbers on the net. Good luck!

The only local dealer is Lowes for me. I just emailed East Penn Manufacturing with the Roxor and my winch details. If they reply I will post the reply here.

Update I called my local Deka guy and he told me it should take a group 24 size battery and its deep cycle. Quoted the price of $95! Hope this helps.

Lowe’s has a bunch of DEKA batteries listed that are all marine group 24.
from 1000cca down to 650cca

Usually for winching applications we recommend an AGM battery like our 8A24M for example; however, if Mahindra is recommending a battery with at least 650 CCA then the 24M7 would meet that requirement which is rated at 800 CCA. I know we currently don’t offer a group 24 in an AGM with more than 525 CCA.
