Collecting MI no-fault insurance providers

Hey folks,

I’m currently researching whether I’d like to take the plunge on a Roxor. I think I have a good idea the assembled vehicle titling process, but less so on insurance.

Can you share what companies you’ve been successful with getting insurance? This will be a non-primary vehicle for me.

From searching, I’ve found AAA, State Farm, and Progressive. For the record, I contacted Hagerty (I have a policy with them) and they declined. They are aware of what the Roxor represents, but UTV = no.

Hey Karajabola,

I had my Roxor built and licensed in Michigan. I had it insured there but I found out later that my insurance (Progressive) only insured it as a side by side after Michigan gave it an assembled VIN.

Michigan DMV told me that I had to have purchased the Roxor in Michigan to even get it licensed. I am not sure how true that is.

Also, I had multiple insurance companies refuse to insure it.

I have it fully licensed in Florida now and got Personal Injury Protection PIP which is required here, through USAA. I had insurance in 10 minutes in the Florida DMV parking lot.

So I understand, can you explain why that’s a problem? Does it force small plate vs big plate, hence you can’t street it?

Since you are in Michigan there really is not an issue since Michigan views the Roxor as an assembled vehicle, after making the required changes for driving on roadways, the DMV gives you a full automotive plate.

The issue is finding a Michigan Insurance company to insure it. It's just that if I had an accident in Michigan on the road, Progressive probably would not cover the repairs since it was insured for off-road use. When I originally got the insurance, I thought Progressive listed it for street driving.

I purchased my Roxor in Michigan knowing that I could get a full plate there and that I was brining it here to Florida to register and drive on the street. Here in Florida, you cannot register and license a Side by Side for the street. That is why getting the Michigan Plate first was important for me. I do see a few side-by-sides here in Florida on the street that run with an Out-of-State plate on them.

Motorcycle vs Full Plate issue is just that you abide by Motorcycle regulations versus Automotive regulations for whatever state that you are in.

I had no problem getting insured through State Farm here in Montana, I already had multiple vehicles and home owners insured with them. It's insured as a UTV but for use on roads/highways as well as off highway. The premium is a little more since I do run it on roads/highways. From what I could find out here is that they have to be registered as a UTV.
