Oil Change Intervals.

Yes, 1,500 miles is more than many UTV riders log in a year. But the SAME oil in the SAME engine is good for FAR more than 5,000 miles.
If you are driving around the farm in dust, once a year is still great.
I change oil in my Nissan Frontier every 5,000 miles - and I drive it a over 70 MPH and it takes 5 quarts.
My Roxor will never see more than 55 MPH - and has 7.4 quarts of oil.
My GOAL is to put on more than 5,000 miles a year - and I will happily spend a few bucks for an oil change!!!
Once a year or 5000 m is plenty especially if you have the EGR removed.

I will never hit the mileage for needing an oil change. Its a 2024 with around 800 miles. My thing is what is the time length to change oil. I know it should probably be at least once a year ?

Here are some general guidelines for oil change intervals based on the age of the engine:

Age of EngineOil Change Interval (miles)
New engines (0-10,000 miles)3,000-5,000 miles
Older engines (10,000-50,000 miles)5,000-7,500 miles
Very old engines (50,000+ miles)7,500-10,000 miles

Type of Oil Used

The type of oil used in your diesel engine can also affect oil change intervals. Different types of oil have varying levels of viscosity, additives, and performance characteristics. For example, synthetic oil tends to last longer than conventional oil, while high-performance oil may require more frequent changes.

Here are some general guidelines for oil change intervals based on the type of oil used:

Type of OilOil Change Interval (miles)
Conventional oil5,000-7,500 miles
Synthetic oil7,500-10,000 miles
High-performance oil3,000-5,000 miles

Driving Conditions

Driving conditions can also affect oil change intervals. For example, driving in extreme temperatures, towing heavy loads, or driving in stop-and-go traffic can cause oil to break down faster. As a result, oil change intervals may need to be adjusted accordingly.

Here are some general guidelines for oil change intervals based on driving conditions:

Driving ConditionsOil Change Interval (miles)
Normal driving conditions5,000-7,500 miles
Extreme temperatures3,000-5,000 miles
Towing heavy loads2,000-3,000 miles
Stop-and-go traffic2,000-3,000 miles

Recommended Oil Change Schedules

Based on the factors discussed above, here are some recommended oil change schedules for different types of diesel engines: (See Also: What’s Full Synthetic Oil? The Ultimate Guide)

Light-Duty Diesel Engines

For light-duty diesel engines, such as those found in pickup trucks and vans, the recommended oil change schedule is as follows:

  • Non-turbocharged engines: every 5,000-7,500 miles
  • Turbocharged engines: every 3,000-5,000 miles
  • High-performance engines: every 2,000-3,000 miles

The above info is based on diesel engines. I do my oil changes every 5000 miles since I use synthetic. My Roxor is light duty.

After initial break-in.

I have been changing the engine oil in Rocky (2024 Roxor) @ 3,000 miles, just like I do all of my other vehicles.
I am using Synthetic Diesel Oil. I just rolled over 7,000 miles yesterday.
Mostly Gravel and Paved roads.

Mine is my daily driver but I also use it for mowing a few miles of trail (once a year), mowing 20 acres of food plots (once a year) and snow blowing as needed. I change it between 3k and 5k miles depending on conditions I’be been using it. I think that works out to about 250-300 hours on the high end (5,000 miles) and 150-200 hours on the low end (3,000 miles). Mowing is dusty and dirty and idling along. Snow blowing is just idling along. My wife buried it in one if our swamps with my grandson a few weeks ago when I was out of town so it sat submerged until I got home. I went ahead and changed all the fluids after that.

Sorry I missed the main point of your question. Yes, I’d change it at least once per year. Even if it just sits for 11 months and 29 days. You actually should exercise it a bit. Letting a vehicle sit unused is pretty hard on them.

Something to remember when ya work on these fine machines, They are third world work horses! There's no special tech involved, just the basics and that equals less problems. They take more abuse in a day than you'll give her in a lifetime. That being said. I go by the oil manufacturer recommendations or close. I run Mobil One full synthetic in all my vehicles and they all get changed at about 7500, using the oil weight recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. My 2018 Roxor uses a Purolator L14619 oil filter with no problems. Get it at any parts store or Walmart super centers for under $10. About the 300 oil change, that's a much needed change as it gets all the crap out of your new engine. The differentials, transfer case and transmission also need changed about 300. I just put front and rear lockers in mine at 1300 miles, That's what was on it when I got it. The oil in all the gear boxes looked like metal flake paint, just as it should after the break in. Last thought, The dealer sells oil changes... Now that piece of crap they call a fuel filter is most definitely the WORST design I have seen and I was maintenance at a shipyard for 20 years. It's getting changed to a proper, small tractor, spin on type filter real soon.
