A long time ago I had binding on the button for the A/T shifter knob. After taking it apart to grease and clean it i noticed the shifter shaft had light piping and the position indicator had spots for LEDs like a lens of some sort. Recently I've been mucking about figuring out how to run wires and decided that while I was at it I'd finally add those darn LEDs in there. I didn't think to take pictures of the process. It is somewhat as follows.
Remove retainer clip for knob.
Remove screws to free shifter and indicator housing.
On the underside of the shifter housing there are additional screws to remove remove these to allow the top cover to be freed and access the lens.
I chose to free the center console for ease of routing a power wire that I attached to the running lights.
There are two spots for LEDs I chose blue and red to create that vaporware violet.
Here is the LED set i used for this project they already have an appropriate resistance set up for 12v.
