Hey everyone, I was removing the dust caps on the front hubs to install some locking hubs and discovered some water. So I go investigating on how it got in. I found the outer bearing had been wet and most of the grease was washed out, but the inner bearing was fine so the hub seal was fine.
so I went ahead and removed the spindle and found the source of water. There was little to no grease at the stub shaft bushing and seal from the start, allowing water to come in to the hubs. I was able to clean and repacked all the bearings and seals, but the main thing to get out of this is to pull the hubs and spindles and check/repack all bearings/seals to help prevent water damage since most of us off-road, before failure of bearings as no one likes to be broken down on the trail for something as simple as failed wheel bearings. After finding this I’ll be checking and greasing the hubs/spindle mid way throu the summer and at the end of hunting season.
