Hello To The Roxor Group,

I purchased my Roxor in Michigan and licensed it for the road in Michigan. I am located permanently in Florida and had to register my Florida business in Michigan to be able to do this.

Anyway, I finally got my Roxor registered, titled, and licensed in Florida. The issue for Florida was getting Personal Injury Protection Insurance (PIP) for the Roxor. The State of Florida DMV worked with me quite well during the process.

Now, the only insurance company I have found who would insure the vehicle was Geico. I have had them for years on other vehicles. Now, I found out that Geico's software changes the letter I to a 1 in the VIN Code. When Michigan registered the vehicle as an assembled vehicle they gave it a VIN Number starting with MI. Geico changes the I to a 1 and the State of Florida does not like that.

Now, trying to get Geico to fix the issue, they are telling me that they will probably drop my insurance because they cannot make the I in the MI into an I on my VIN information on their end. I will be calling them back again for the third time. Geico told me that that is what their software does with an I in the VIN.

I will keep you informed.

Florida DMV told me, It has four wheels, it looks like a Jeep, We are recording it as a Utility Vehicle with a Jeep Body, not a motorcycle as the Manufacturers VIN suggests.

Good luck, man. Geico wouldn't cover my Roxor at all. I had to insure it through Progressive. My big issue with my Roxor was titling it in my name because the title from the guy I bought it from was missing a digit in the VIN. The DMV got it fixed, so my title now is correct, but it took a bit of doing.

Newest Florida Licensing Update:

I licensed my Roxor in Michigan. The Michigan DMV gave the Roxor a new VIN. The new VIN starts with MI. I was able to relicense my Roxor in Florida with a full size plate.

Two weeks ago I received a letter from the State of Florida stating that my insurance VIN does not match my vehicle VIN. The issue is that the Geico software does not recognize an "I" in a VIN code and replaces the "I" with the number 1. I asked Geico if they could force the "I" and they told me no. So, now I get to go back to the Florida DMV with a VIN application to have them issue me a new VIN without the letter "I".

Also, Geico told me if it is not corrected they will drop my insurance at the end of the year.

Could you just use an insurance agent in Michigan to get coverage? Might be easier than dealing with another VIN change.

No. The States' Insurance Laws/Requirements are different from State to State. The interesting thing is, my son works as a 3rd tier software engineer where they fix software issues like this, but when I asked Geico about doing it they flatly refused.

Sam, they were going to originally but did not. I just need to go back and explain the situation to the ladies at the DMV and they will probably do it. I have the paperwork, I just haven't gone back yet. At the moment I am fully licensed and insured with a full plate in Florida.

The interesting thing is, you need to get it licensed in some other state first because it is listed as a side by side from the manufacturer and Florida says they will not license a side by side for the road. There is a line in their code that even states that.
