On the cheap kick panels

I've lusted over those fancy on the rox kick panels for a while but I just couldn't convince myself to pay 90 bucks for them. So i made on the rox panels at home. I dub them on the cheap kick panels. I used a heat gun and flattened out the narrow side of these plastic 6.5 inch speaker mounts. For a little over what the otr panels cost i was able to get speakers and mounts. I already had a heat gun.

Once in place i secured with two bolts top and bottom. I also threw some polyfill in there.

Did you make the flat part by pressing to in the spot where you mount the speakers or just something flat (a table top, a board,...)?

Pretty close I used my house's brick all and a small piece of flat wood. They are pretty secure in there as the bottom is held by the narrowing of that kick area the sides by the front and the ledge and the top to some extent by the other piece of metal that juts out. Then they get screwed in. I used some 1/4 20s, metal and rubber washers on both inside and outside, and some lock nuts. Took a few fittings to get them in there just right but it didn't take more than 10 minutes to do the forming.

I'm sure someone else might have come up with a more elegant solution but I wasn't all that worried about the bolt visibility . It'd be possible to probably drill or use smaller tech screws and a drill attachment to drive them from the side. I was originally debating cutting out wood shapes to the same size as the two different areas and maybe using some L brackets to attach the wood somehow. Then the enclosure could be drilled into the wood with small enough screws that they wouldn't show from the outside. This just seemed so much easier and all those little bits of hardware from Ace start to add up.
