I have a tube of silicone grease that I get at Harbor Freight that I use on thread's and O-Rings. I have been using it on my 3.6L Jeep Oil Filter Housing Threads and O-Ring for years with good results.
Good suggestion. I think grease is the key to this job.
Next time I may try to do this upside down with the housing in place, given that I was able to remove the filter bowl with a big socket. That eliminates fussing with hose disconnects which are very difficult to work with and clearly a potential source of failure.
